The setting of this sacred text in a battlefield is often seen as an allegory for the ethical and moral struggles encountered in human life.

The Bhagavad Gita's call for selfless action has inspired many leaders of the Indian independence movement, including Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, who regarded it as his "spiritual dictionary."
